Sensei Martin Cartwright began training in the art of Atemi Jiu~Jitsu in April 2000 at Unstone Dojo under the instruction of Shihan Michael Holden.
Sensei Martin was awarded the rank of Shodan (1st Dan) in June 2003 by Shihan Michael.
In November 2005, Sensei Martin was awarded the rank of Nidan (2nd Dan) by Shihan Michael.
In May 2006, Sensei Martin was appointed assistant coach (Level One) by the BJJA(GB).
In November 2009, Sensei Martin achieved the recognised status of Coach (Level 3) by the BJJA(GB).
